Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau Environmental Policy
We minimize our environmental footprint by:- Reducing Waste
- Sharing files electronically vs. printing and/or photocopying.
- Reducing the quantity of publications, the number of copies produced and the amount of mail pieces distributed.
- Printing emails only when hard copies are needed.
- Using double-sided copies for presentations and reports.
- Reusing Materials
- Ensuring that printed materials are made from post-consumer waste paper.
- Using office supplies and promotional products made from recycled materials.
- Using durable glass and cups for beverages instead of using disposable paper products.
- Recycling Materials
- Disposing paper cardboard, cans and bottles in recyclable containers. Hiring vendors who recycle their own materials.
- Reducing Energy
- Extensively using web-based marketing to reduce printing-related energy needs.
- Employing local vendors and service providers to reduce transportation and energy/logistics costs and consumption.
How Can You Improve Our Environment?
- Laptop computers use 75% less energy, compared to desktops. Shut your laptop down completely at the end of the day to save even more energy. Recycle your printer ink cartridges by mailing them back to the manufacturer in their postage-paid envelopes, or by taking them back to the store you purchased them from.
- Compact fluorescent bulbs uses 60% less energy and save 300 pounds of C02 a year, compared to incandescent bulbs.
- Public transportation, carpooling and shopping locally saves energy consumption, costs and reduces pollution from auto exhausts. Many Cumberland County stores, boutiques and restaurants are accessible by bus and are located in close proximity to each other.
- Remove your name from national mailing lists to reduce paper waste associated with unwanted advertising and promotions. Visit www.directmail.com and follow instructions for getting your name off these lists.
- Carry tap or spring water in refillable water bottles instead of buying water in disposable plastic bottles.
- Let hotel management know that it is not necessary to change your towels and sheets every day. The reduced laundry saves water and energy consumption. Pack your own toiletries to reduce the amount of sample-sized paper and plastic wrappers/containers sent to landfills for disposal.
